--Christmas Eve. I was one of those crazy fools running out at 5pm to get a last minute gift. Traffic was nuts, the roads were icy, and the Christmas music countdown was only on the J's, which means lots of Jim Brickman. But you know what? I actually loved it. I felt humanity comradery. I looked around at the other cars, the other psychos trying to dash into Costco before they slam the doors shut, and I thought, "God bless us, every one!"
--Snow plows leave piles of snow that look like piles of Abominable Snowman crap.
--I think the true sign of maturity, of childhood leaving forever, is being more excited to give presents than receive. I was more thrilled wrapping my little bundles for my family tonight than I am at the prospect of opening stuff tomorrow. Although I am gracious, I have finally transitioned.
--Okay, this sounds like bragging, but I have to write it down. Christmas reminds me of my junior year, when I was invited to sing a solo in a choir concert (three bars of "Holiday" by Madonna--woot!) and was told by many peers, teachers, and audience members that I was going places with my voice. The last time I sang for anyone other than my shower head was clear back in June. That was also the last time I played the piano. I never thought I'd go that long, but pregnancy changed my lung capacity and crowded my mind. Now I find myself thinking about my future, and I feel more empowered than ever to try and make it as a musician. That voice of mine is still in there somewhere, and now I have Finley as the perfect audience member.
--Christmas Eve dinner with my family. Topic of conversation for 20 minutes? How Tom Hanks seems to pee in every one of his movies. Interesting trademark.
