Commonplace book: noun. A book in which noteworthy quotations, comments, pictures, etc. are written.
What are you supposed to do with things you love? Just cherish them? Listen to the music you love, hug the people you're enamored of, pipe up if someone mentions a Greek myth and say, "Hey, that's my favorite"?
Do you replicate the things you love? Obsess about them?
What if that doesn't seem like enough? Sometimes I feel so strongly about things--silly things, mind you, like a phrase or a painting--that I wish I could inject them into my bloodstream so they could become a part of me. It never seems adequate to just comment, "yes, I like that." I wish there was more to do. I'd get a symbolic tattoo of everything I'm passionate about if I could afford it--make these tokens part of my skin.
Instead, every day in February I am sharing something with you that I love. This is my cyber-commonplace book, after all. This is where I house those little tidbits of life that give me hope and make me glad I woke up today.
I complained about feeling uninspired, unmotivated, absolutely stuck. Gratitude is the thread that leads me back to action, time and time again. Here's hoping a decent grateful February will lead me through to my 24th birthday with a thankful heart.
