I'm Her: The Women of Inglourious Basterds

Quentin Tarantino is a favorite director of mine, partly because his dialogue is witty, and partly because he manages to make his violence humorous and cartoonish. He directed Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, raising her to goddess status in my mind, and last summer he released a movie he had been working on for nearly ten years, Inglourious Basterds. The movie is about Nazis, World War Two, and a (fictitious) group of American soldiers who travel around Europe scalping Nazis. Brad Pitt is the commander of the Basterds, Melanie Laurent is the breathtaking Shoshanna, Diane Kruger is the bubbly Bridget von Hammersmark, and Christoph Waltz gives one memorable performance as a cunning, sadistic Nazi.

Everything about this movie is fantastic, but the costumes were, to me, especially worth mentioning.

Bridget von Hammersmark is a 1940s German actress, a double agent. She wears traditional Hollywood 40s garb, lots of browns, blacks, and greys.

Shoshanna, on the other hand, glows as the only surviving Jew in her family. She creates a grand scheme to kill Hitler and all Nazi commanders by burning them alive in her theatre. Throughout the movie, she dresses plainly, blending into the film's gritty scenes.

Her dress for the finale, however, was stunning.

Definitely a movie worth seeing, if you can stomach it.

I LOVED the movie and the costumes! Especially the jump-suit type dress shoshana wears, I am trying to find a picture of that! :P
(that is how I came across your blog). Love your post and the extra on the costumes!
See ya round!
