The Fountain, a film by Darren Aronofsky. This movie is simply beautiful. A few selling points if you haven't watched it yet:
--For die-hard romantics, this story is so romantic it'll have you sobbing like you haven't since Rose let go of Jack.
--For people who like action-flicks, it's got its fair share of fight scenes.
--For you trippers, the storyline is nutso and the graphics are mind-boggling.
--The whole movie is like a love poem to Darren Aronofsky's fiancee, the lovely Rachel Weisz. She's clearly his muse for this film.
--The soundtrack by Clint Mansell is raw, organic, and features violins. Haunting.
--The graphics themselves are literally organic--Aronofsky used petri dish combinations to make Xibalba.
--I love the symbolism in this movie regarding eternity. Hugh Jackman craves the juice from the tree of life so that he can live forever. In becoming the tree himself, he lives forever... All sorts of deep thoughts to think.
If you haven't watched it, watch it. If you live near me, borrow it.
The works of Kurt Vonnegut. He is the writer I will never be: straight-forward, circular in his storylines, masculine, no frills. If there's a mention of a gun in his books, you can bet someone gets shot by the last page. He is the tidiest writer with the most hilarious commentaries.
The soundtrack to O, Brother, Where Art Thou? It's upbeat without being cheesy. It's simple. It's sunshiney. It's fantastic bluegrass, better than the Grateful Dead because you don't have to be stoned to appreciate it. It makes me lust for a banjo.
What's striking your fancy? (Dirty.)
