Step one: Acknowledge the ghost. Look down at your goose-bumped arms, feel the chills rise up the back of your neck, and realize that something is haunting you.
Step two: Speak to the ghost. Contact the ghost in any form you can--e-mail, phone calls, Facebook messages, even face-to-face. Don't let the ghost scare you away. After all, the ghost was once human, once in your life, once heard all your secrets.
Step three: Make your peace with the ghost. Confront it. Tell the ghost about how he's shown up in your dreams and your nightmares for months.
Step four (the hardest): Release the spirit and wish it well. Let the ghost move along, down the corridor of lost souls, lost opportunities, lost moments. Write a song about the ghost, remember the ghost during Halloween, and then watch it slip away. Say goodbyes forever, and the next time you get the chills, put a sweater on.

You cannot possibly know or understand how badly I needed to read this today. Thank you, lady.
