My dad has said some pretty ridiculous things over the years, but they have since become our family's inside jokes. Like the time...
When Hannah and I were playing under the kitchen table, and dinner was ready, and he told us, "Get up and sit down!"
Or the time we were eating mashed potatoes, and some got stuck in his throat but he kept talking, and said in a helium voice, "There's about thirty blossoms back there..."
Or when he was trying to quote Mary Poppins, and instead of singing "Jane and Michael Banks," he said, "Jane and Polly Dempf."
Or when he waved at a complete stranger (which he does frequently) and Hannah said, "Who was that?" And his reply was, "That's probably what she's thinking."
Or when he was fixing Emma's hamburger, and she didn't want mustard or mayo, and he said, all frustrated, "Emma, you've got to have something!"
And these are the least painful ones. Dad, we love you.
